SOLDOTNA, Alaska - The home of the incoming vice chair of the Alaska Republican Party has been declared a total loss after a fire.

KSRM reports (http://is.gd/SiXeRq) the fire occurred early Wednesday morning at the Kasilof home of Debbie and Jack Brown. Debbie Brown is a former Kenai Peninsula Borough mayoral candidate and incoming state GOP party official.

Central Emergency Services Health and Safety Officer Brad Nelson says the call came in about 12:30 a.m., and they fought the fire until about 7 am..

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, investigators are looking at a towel that had been warmed up in a microwave after a shower and then put on a wooden deck as a possible ignition source.
