Hutchison rolls past Delta Junction in 9-3 win

FAIRBANKS — The Hutchison Hawks got off to a fast start and held off a late Delta Junction rally to claim a 9-3 victory Saturday afternoon at the Big Dipper Ice Area.

JR Boots registered a hat trick, while six other players scored a goal apiece for the winners and goaltender Daniel Slane made 13 saves to secure the win.

The Hawks jumped out to an 8-0 lead through the first two periods before settling for a six-goal win.

“I liked the intensity we displayed in the first two periods,” Hutchison coach Keith Bartusch sad. “We came out in the third and played lackadaisical and lost 3-1, so we still have some things to work on.”

Gabe Madore, Tom Lemelin, Pat Newman, Cole Davis, Dylan Edwards, Brandon Rustad scored goals for Hutchison.

Rustad, Dylan Sands and Alex Marcos had two assists apiece for Hutchison, with Boots, Lemelin, Madore, Eli Berrios and Austin Heineken contributing one helper each.

Colton Schultz, Tyler Williams and Craig Hennegar scored for Delta Junction. Jared Smith registered two assists for the Huskies, while Schultz and Brandon Smith each had one. Goaltender Ben Mock stopped 42 shots.

The Hawks were scheduled to play at Tri-Valley today, but that game will depend upon the temperature in Healy.

Patriots earn tie

Down 2-0 going into the third period, the North Pole Patriots came up with a pair of goals to earn a 2-2 against the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears on Friday night at the Polar Ice Center.

North Pole lost to Juneau-Douglas 8-0 on Thursday.

“We came out to play today,” said North Pole coach Stuart Zimmerman. “After Thursday’s game, we told the guys to forget the first half of the season and play their game. The last two games we played well so we’re head in the right direction.”

The Patriots dropped a 2-1 decision to Colony on Thursday night.

After Juneau-Douglas took a 2-0 lead on goals by Tod Baseden and Kaipo Tseu, North Pole came storming back in the third.

Jason Donald scored a power-play goad off assists from Blake Wade and James Laszoffy to get North Pole on the scoreboard. It was Donald’s ninth goal of the season.

Carmon Teel scored the game-tying goal with 40 seconds left on the clock after North Pole had pulled its goalie Ian Hancock in favor of an extra attacker. Wade earned an assist.

Hancock stopped 27 shots, while Colter Prichard made 17 saves for Juneau-Douglas.

Lathrop triumphs

Lathrop skated to a 5-1 win against the Monroe Catholic Rams on Saturday night at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.

Max Blankenship and Colton Meier each had two goals and an assist for the Malemutes. Connor Nilson accounted for the Malemutes other goal, while Logan Parsley had three assists and Cole Stephens and Dylan Ramaker had one each.

Dylan Steele scored Monroe’s lone goal late in the third period off an assist from Joseph Rauenhorst.

Lathrop goalie Ryan Ebenal had 15 saves and Monroe goalie Nathaniel Brose stopped 39 shots.

West Valley wins

Eric Weber had a hat trick and goalie Matt Taylor made 19 saves as the West Valley Wolfpack registered a 5-0 win against the Colony Knights on Saturday night at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Patty Center.

Christian Schafer and Zach Ahiers accounted for the other West Valley goals. Parker Walleye and Ty Munson each had two assists, while Stoshie Skorulkski, Casey Lewandowski, Taylor Sawchuk, Zack Savereide and Calvon Boots each had one.

Colony goalie Colton Beebe faced 32 shots from the Wolfpack.
