Health care, social work employment up in Fairbanks North Star Borough

FAIRBANKS — Employment in the health care and social assistance sectors in the Fairbanks North Star Borough grew by nearly 12 percent from 2008 to 2011, according to the latest edition of the borough’s Community Research Quarterly.

The increase slowed to 1 percent from 2010 to 2011, with 4,720 people employed in the two sectors combined last year, according to the borough’s quarterly report, which provides a wide range of statistics about the borough’s economy.

The average annual monthly wage for health care and social assistance workers rose 5.1 percent from 2010 to 2011, to $3,691, according to the borough. The average annual monthly wage has increased 7.8 percent since 2008.
