10-year old Tristan Metschan of California, left, with the help of his sister Charlotte, 8, center, search the woods off of Bias Drive in Fairbanks for signs of buried treasure, his prize for winning the Brain Chase learning challenge and global treasure hunt, Wednesday morning, May 24, 2017. They are recorded by Brain Chase videographer Marc Mariott, right. Brain Chase, created by Allan and Heather Staker, is a seven-week program where students ages 6-16 complete weekly age-appropriate learning assignments in a variety of electives to unlock animated webisodes giving them clues to hunt down a real treasure hidden somewhere on earth. The first participant to complete the learning challenge and guess the treasure's location within a two mile radius wins and is flown with family to the secret location to unearth the treasure, a $10,000 cash scholarship, and take it home. Brain Chase has brought winning children and their families in previous years to unearth similar treasure in New Orleans and Norway.
