FAIRBANKS — A general court-martial for a Fort Wainwright soldier accused of killing his wife begins this week.
Spc. Aaron M. Rentfrow, 30, of Fort Wayne, Ind., faces charges of murder and kidnapping. The court-martial convened Monday morning and is expected to begin selecting a five-member panel of jurors this morning. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
Rentfrow went to the Fairbanks police station in January and said his wife, Tonya Lynn Rentfrow, 31, was dead at their home on post. He asked to speak to an attorney before providing more information about how she died.
Rentfrow was an Army mental health specialist. He served in the Army between 1999 and 2003 and re-enlisted in 2007. He has served on posts in Hawaii, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas and Kentucky. He was never deployed overseas.
