ANCHORAGE, Alaska - One person was injured in a fire that began in a kitchen of a six-unit apartment building in Anchorage.

The Anchorage Fire Department says firefighters responded to the fire at 1:42 a.m. Thursday in east Anchorage.

The caller reported that their apartment was on fire and all the occupants were out of the apartment, but people remained in the other apartments in the building.

When firefighters arrived, they reported fire coming out of the front door. Anchorage police helped evacuated the occupants of an adjacent apartment. One person was taken to the hospital.

The Red Cross has asked with assistance in helping four families.
