FAIRBANKS - The 2011 Yukon Quest was no easy mush in the park. Not that mushing 1,000 miles ever is. The Alaska side of the race proved incredibly trying and difficult.

Weather was a major factor, with strong winds and temperatures as cold as 52 below.

Much of the struggle, but also the joy, of this year’s race is evident on the faces of the hardy souls involved with it. From mushers with wind-burned, frost-bitten faces, to volunteers ragged after a day’s work, never did any of them show anything less than abundant enthusiasm on the trail that takes mushers from Whitehorse to Fairbanks.
