It took 18 tractors and one pilot car to move the Fairbanks Exploration Company’s Gold Dredge No. 6 just 7.2 miles in this 1958 photo. The dredge, weighing 9,590 tons, moved from a mined-out Gold Hill area to a new dredge site on Sheep Creek. The sled runners have propane heaters attached to keep them from freezing to the ground.
