This historic photo shows a U.S. Army Air Force round-trip flight from New York to Nome in 1920, taken in Tanana. The four open cockpit biplanes that made the trip were referred to as the Black Wolf Squadron. The Tower Hotel, owned by Joe Anicich, was claimed to be the tallest building in Alaska by adding the tower when it was built. Pioneers of Alaska Museum at Pioneer Park
