Shann Paul Jones will be teaching a 15-hour weekend class on the art and science of fly-fishing on June 8-9 as part of the University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions program.

The class costs $130 and involves classroom and field sessions. The class is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.

According to the instructor, students in the class will learn to “use a fly rod to cast a fishing fly with pinpoint accuracy, tie fishing knots and construct their own leaders, select fishing flies and, most importantly, learn where fish live and how best to catch (and release) them.”

Students must provide their own boots, field clothing and sport fishing license. Fly rods, reels and tackle are available to borrow.
