Hatchery visitors center open Sunday

FAIRBANKS — The Tanana Valley Fisheries Center at the new Ruth Burnett Sport Fish Hatchery on Wilbur Street will be open during the Midnight Sun Festival on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Visitors cans see the hatchery operations through viewing windows and learn about how and why the hatchery produces tens of thousands of fish year to put in local lakes for area sport anglers. There is also a 5,000-gallon aquarium with hatchery-raised Arctic grayling, Arctic char, rainbow trout and lake trout on display.

Information will also be available about on-going department efforts to open the Tanana Valley Fisheries Center to the public in coming months.
