In partnership with Fairbanks Paddlers, The Folk School is hosting the Paddlers’ Wooden Boat Rendezvous on Sunday. The event was previously held annually until a few years ago.

The family-friendly event will give participants of all ages the chance to float the Chena River through Fairbanks, using any kind of river-worthy, human-powered boat — wooden or otherwise. The float will go from Graehl Landing to the Pioneer Park boat launch.

At Pioneer Park, The Folk School will hold a barbecue on the lawn, with boats on display and the opportunity to visit with river folks. The barbecue will be free and involves a potluck, so attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share. The Paddlers will provide the core barbecue foods — burgers, buns, chips, etc. — but participants should bring their own chairs, plates and utensils.

“If you’ve long wanted to build the boat of your dreams, now is the time to get started!” The Folk School’s website states.

The Wooden Boat Rendezvous will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more details, visit bit.ly/2Yj9UUD. Contact The Folk School at info@folk.school or by calling 907-457-1219
