FAIRBANKS - One of Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival’s most popular events is hitting the road.
The Winter Gospel Choir heads to Healy Saturday for the annual Winterfest Celebration and a special performance at the Tri-Valley Community Center, 5-6 p.m.
Some Healy folks are part of that 70-person choir, thanks to a special no-fee incentive for these participants who attend rehearsals 110 miles from home, every night this week.
Renowned conductor Bobby Lewis and pianist Eustace Johnson lead the choir in a performance of “A Celebration of Black History in Story and Song.”
A second performance will be held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Fairbanks.
The performance in Healy follows a day of winter activities at Denali National Park and in Healy, as the Denali Borough celebrates winter in its own unique way. All are invited to the Gospel Choir and to the chili feed that follows.
