FAIRBANKS - Yee-hah! It's time to saddle up those steel ponies and head on over to the Tanana Valley Fairgrounds for the Fairbanks Cycling Club’s annual Bike Expo and Swap.
The swap, which begins at 10 a.m. with check-in for all sale items at 8 a.m., typically attracts a few hundred people, according to Joel Buth, owner of Goldstream Sports and president of the cycling club. And for good reason with somewhere between 200-300 bikes for sale and oodles of parts, there is something every bike enthusiast needs.
There will also be bike repair clinics — both on the road and home maintenance — as well as a cyclocross clinic for those interested in that grueling (but fun) sport.
“The FCC Bike Expo is an event to promote cycling, cycling awareness and kid’s bike safety,” Buth said, adding that Bike to Work week begins on Monday. “We timed this to be the kick-off event.”
Kid’s safety comes in the form of a bike rodeo where children will learn skills to ride safely and ultimately build confidence in their riding abilities.
