The St. Mark Catholic Student Association is hosting a Gold Mass, presided by Bishop Chad Zielinski of the Diocese of Fairbanks, to show support for the coming year.

Zielinski released a statement in regards to state budget reductions, writing, “It seems inevitable that Alaskans will soon face major reductions in state funding that will eliminate services and jobs in charitable organizations and in the University of Alaska. The careers and lives of many residents will be deeply impacted. As Bishop of the Diocese of Fairbanks, I wish to offer spiritual support to those affected. I am encouraged by seeing people from all walks of life thoughtfully consider what truly matters to our communities. While people may have different ideas about how to build a just and prosperous society, we can all at least acknowledge that we share the same goal.”

The public is invited to join Catholics at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, at UAF’s Murie Auditorium for a Gold Mass that will be celebrated for all UAF’s students, faculty, staff, administrators and supporters. Parking on campus is free after 5 p.m.
