May 24-27, Northern Alaska Tour Company sponsored a trash pickup weekend of the Dalton Highway formerly the Haul Road up to Toolik Research Camp. I have a new view on wanton litter.

Julie Stricker’s article gives more detail:

Absolutely essential to this cleanup effort was Alaska West trucking, which provided a truck, container and an awesome driver. Also BLM, which provided personnel and trucks.

By the way, there was a second weekend pickup. Thank you again to Alaska West Trucking, NATC and BLM. The combined two weekend pick up yielded 13 tons of garbage.

Kudos to NATC, Alaska West Trucking and BLM for their commitment to the stewardship of the environment, and Toolik Research for the tour of the research station.
