NIKISKI, Alaska - Alaska State Troopers say a Nikiski family escaped a fire at their home after being awakened by smoke alarms.

According to a trooper report, the Nikiski Fire Department responded to the fire early Sunday morning.

The blaze was soon reported under control.

According to the trooper report, smoke alarms woke the residents. The parents, who were downstairs, saw heavy smoke and found the fire in the living room upstairs. They managed to get all four children.

The family crawled back down the stairs and safely left the home.
