To the editor:

It is my opinion that the Offices of Children’s Services needs a thorough investigation. Its underhanded and intimidating tactics need to be stopped. We need to make laws governing OCS and not let it walk all over our children and future.

It says it is there for children who are abused or neglected, but if the children are not being abused or neglected OCS claims that they are with its lies, and what OCS says is fact in its eyes only. OCS says that it are there to put families back together, but it does not.

I do not think that Fairbanks and its surrounding area is that big to have 10 to 12 child-in-need cases in one day, let alone in a week.

Yes, I know there are children out there who need someone to intervene for them, but it needs to be done the right way. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

When parents find a way to have their child or children taken care of with family or friends whom they trust and the children love and trust, OCS comes in and rips that all apart, with no rhyme or reason. Once OCS gets their foot in the door, then that’s the end of the family.

This government program does more damage to children by taking the children before it completes a thorough investigation of the family in question. The traumatization the children go through after being ripped from the only people they know, love and trust is unspeakable. But it’s in the “best interest of the child.” Bah humbug!

I would truly love to see OCS regulated better and have civilians (or citizens of the community) review and investigate what OCS claims about families. We need to stop OCS’s tyrannical ways, and we need to do it now. We need no more secrets and behind-closed-doors deals on our children. They are our future and we need to stand up for them.
