FAIRBANKS - The Fairbanks North Star Borough Board of Education and Fairbanks Education Association reached a tentative agreement on a contract Monday afternoon, according to a school district news release.

The two parties have been negotiating since February 2011 and the teachers have been working without a contract since July 1, 2011.

Under the tentative two-year agreement, the teachers will receive a $1.5 percent salary increase, with a $1,500 stipend for teachers ineligible for a step increase for the 2011-12 school year.

For the 2012-13 school year, the teachers salary schedule will increase 1.75 percent, $100 increase per cell and a $1,500 stipend for teachers ineligible for a step increase.

This story will be updated with further details.
