FAIRBANKS — The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District has named three new principals — Dave Dershin, Mary Carlson and Dan Domke, all of whom already work in the district.
Dershin will begin immediately as Lathrop High School principal. He became interim principal at the school after Karen Gaborik began working as the assistant superintendent for secondary education in October.
Dershin has worked as an educator for 20 years and first taught at Lathrop in 1996. He became the school’s assistant principal for curriculum and instruction in 2007.
Carlson, principal at Barnette Magnet School, will become principal of Arctic Light Elementary this fall. Carlson is replacing Mary Cofer, who will retire this year. Before working for the school district, Carlson served more than four years with the U.S. Army, including time at Fort Wainwright, where Arctic Light is located. The district is working to find a new principal for Barnette before the new school year begins.
Domke, assistant principal at Hutchison High School, will become principal in the fall. He will replace Jeanette Hayden, who will retire this year after 32 years with the district. Domke has worked for the district for 12 years.
