FAIRBANKS — An 18-year-old man is accused of driving a truck into the front doors of the Bentley Mall while heavily intoxicated at about 6 p.m. Thursday.
“His story was he was to drive through the doors on one side, drive through the mall and drive through the doors on the other side,” said Sgt. Gary Yamamoto with the Fairbanks Police Department. “He didn’t quite make it through the first doors, although he made it pretty close.”
No one was hurt in the collision, although some people were scared to find an older model Ford Ranger rolling into the mall, Yamamoto said.
Police arrested Joseph Wilson, 18, on charges of driving under the influence, felony assault and felony criminal mischief.
Police believe he was under the influence of marijuana and another yet-to-be-determined drug, Yamamoto said.
Wilson probably did a few thousand dollars’ worth of damage to the building, police said.
