Eielson cross country and track coach takes Sourdough Triathlon

FAIRBANKS — Eielson High School cross country and track coach David Dyer pulled away from his rivals on the running portion of Saturday’s Sourdough Triathlon to claim his first win in Alaska’s only half Iron Man triathlon.

The former Lathrop High standout completed the 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile run in 4 hours, 13 minutes, about 16 minutes ahead of his nearest rival.

Tyson Flaherty earned the runner-up spot in 4:29 and Andrew Zaydak was third in 4:35.

Kinzey Apperson won a close women’s race in 4:57, while A. Hull took second in 5:04 and Amber Barlow finished third in 5:21.

The women’s relay team of Janna Miller, Sharon Baker and Davya Flaherty finished in 4:42 for the top relay time.

A field of 35 individuals and 11 relay teams were entered in the event.
