KODIAK, Alaska - A diver needed a medical evacuation after running out of air and being forced to surface quickly.

KMXT reports (http://is.gd/5Ow088) the unidentified diver was taken from the fishing vessel Patricia Kay late Monday evening. The ship was in Alitak Bay, about 90 miles from Kodiak City on the south end of Kodiak Island.

The diver, who hasn't been identified, also suffered shortness of breath. A Coast Guard helicopter picked up him and delivered him to Kodiak EMTs in stable condition.

The man had been diving for sea cucumbers.
