FAIRBANKS‚—The Fairbanks Amateur Hockey Association will host a Try Hockey for Free clinic on Nov. 3 at the Big Dipper Ice Arena to introduce players ages 4-9 to the sport.

There are two sessions for the hour-long clinic — one starting at noon and the other at 1:15 p.m. — which is designed to introduce boys and girls to the basics of the game in a fun, safe environment.

“We look forward to introducing new families to our sport,” said Jim Culley, president of FAHA.

“To keep costs reasonable for parents, we’ve incorporated programs to provide first-year players with equipment for the season at a reasonable price,” Culley said. “We are offering a six-week session for players ages 4-8 $150 in January.”

Try Hockey for Free Day is part of Come Play Hockey Month. The program is designed to provide youth hockey associations with a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport.

It is a joint effort between USA Hockey, the National Hockey League and several NHL teams. Clinics are scheduled at more than 500 locations across the United States.

Total Hockey and Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports are the main sponsors of the clinic.

For more information or to register for the Try Hockey for Free or the six-week session in January, contact Anna Culley at 322-7633.

The Fairbanks Amateur Hockey Association can be reached at 456-3242.
