FAIRBANKS — The summer tourist season in Denali National Park and Preserve may be over but the road into the park is still open, weather permitting, to Mile 30.

Park visitors can drive as far as the Teklanika Rest Area through Sept. 30 but the road will be closed at Mile 3 from Oct. 1-7 for construction. The National Park Service is replacing a large culvert near Mile 5 of the road that will make the road impassable for a week starting on Oct. 1.

The road is schedule to reopen on Oct. 8, weather conditions permitting. Visitors should call ahead for weather and road information, as conditions can change rapidly at this time of year. The number is (907) 683-9532.

There is a $10 per person entrance fee for visitors age 16 and older. Visitors can pay the entrance fee at the Murie Science and Learning Center.
