FAIRBANKS — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Army plan several controlled burns in the next month to dispose of wood fuel that could become a summer fire hazard if not eliminated.

Weather permitting, between Oct. 23 and Nov. 24, the Army will ignite as many as 100 piles per day at the Yukon Training Area east of Eielson Air Force Base.

The BLM also plans to ignite as many as 50 piles per day at the Railhead Communication line of site near Badger Gate of Fort Wainwright on Old Badger Road.
