An unusual nickname appears to be the source of a shakeup in one of the races for Fairbanks City Council Seat B this Friday morning.

When candidate registration closed Wednesday, Nicholas Bowen raised more than a few eyebrows with his nickname, "Monkey," but it appears that he had some second thoughts today because he asked to have the simian nickname dropped.

Update: Changing the nickname coincided with, but wasn't the cause for frequent council candidate Frank Turney dropping out of the race.

Bowen will face Perry Walley in what is now a two-way race.
