FAIRBANKS - It’s the snow season, and that means dog mushing in Alaska. For those who haven’t been exposed to mushing yet, here are a couple of basic terms:

Gee: Command for turning right

Haw: Command for turning left

On by:Command for passing something/someone without stopping to sniff

Leaders: Dogs at the head of the team

Swing dogs: The two dogs right behind the leaders.

Wheel dogs: The dogs in the final position, just in front of the sled.

Team dogs: Dogs that aren’t in lead, swing or wheel.

Oh, crud!: The team took off without you.
