KODIAK, Alaska - The person that the Kodiak Island Borough selected to be the new borough manager has turned down the job.

KMXT-FM (http://is.gd/eA7muX) says Erick Strahl of Menominee, Mich., turned down the borough's job offer this week.

Borough Mayor Jerome Selby says Strahl cited opposition from his family to move to Alaska in the middle of a school year. Strahl was picked after more than five months of reviewing applications, interviewing candidates and negotiating a contract.

Borough planner Bud Cassidy will continue to serve as borough manager until the position can be filled.
