FAIRBANKS — The Surgery Center of Fairbanks has been awarded the CNOR Strong designation from the Competency & Credentialing Institute, as announced in a news release.

CNOR stands for Certified Nurse Operating Room, and the Surgery Center of Fairbanks was the only facility in Alaska to achieve the certification in 2019.

The CNOR Strong designation is given to surgical facilities with at least 50 percent of its nursing staff certified by the nationally accredited CNOR program.

The news release quotes Surgery Center Administrator Jamie Conant:

“Nurses who commit to certification in the specialty of the Operating Room are dedicated to continually advancing their knowledge to provide the best patient care to the community of Fairbanks and other far-reaching communities around the state.”

The Surgery Center opened in 2010 and specializes in outpatient surgery at which surgical procedures are performed and patients go home the same day, according to the press release.
