To the editor:
We have had cars broken into three times in the same amount of years, as well as one vehicle stolen. It always seems to be the same people, judging by the way the cars have been left, the timing, etc.
I walked out to start our cars to warm up this morning and found doors left ajar. I knew before I pulled it open what happened.
We live in the Georgetown condos (in Aurora), and there have been multiple neighbors broken into, with thefts including purses, GPS devices and many other items.
Because pawn shops have no interest in computerizing for quick search for stolen goods, at almost no cost to them, we will almost be sure to never recover stolen items. An officer said it’s because of conservative numbers here in Alaska and also pawnbrokers who enjoy operating on the shady side so they don’t lose purchases, regardless if stolen or legitimately sold. Most all other states have these systems, and it helps cut down on crime.
I guess I am hoping for a little press coverage stating what happened and the area, the hours and some of the items stolen, so if any parents, relatives or friends can call in leads to help us, the victims, recover our items or at least get these crooks off our streets.
If it is happening here, I bet it happens other areas and that it’s a group or gang doing it.
