FAIRBANKS — Alaska State Troopers have recovered what they believe to be the remains of a Fairbanks man missing since June.

There had been no sign of Johnny Rogers, 69, since June 16 when cell phone records indicate he had a brief conversation with a friend.

At about 3:20 p.m. Monday, human remains were found near a pullout at

350 Mile Parks Highway. Rogers’ blue 2010 Toyota pickup truck was found parked nearby, but it was not visible from the road, trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said in an e-mail.

“There is no indication of foul play at this time; however, the remains will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, and the death is still under investigation,” Ipsen said.

Rogers reportedly suffered from health problems that he needed to address regularly. His family had offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to his being found dead or alive.

The family of Johnny Rogers appreciate everyones hours that have been put into finding him. By the grace of God we will all be able to put some closure to his missing. Now we will all gather to have a Memorial in his honor. We pray that all involved will have closure, too. May the Lord bless you all and keep you all safe.

Johnny's niece,

Heaven needed another Angle. Our brother Johnny Rogers has filled this vacancy. It was just by the Grace of God the way Johnny was found.

Thank all of you who have given Johnny's family support and prayers. They really work. We love each and everyone of you.

We love you Johnny and miss you.

Your big brother Alton

Pinksocks - okay, so I missed a word or two. I'm typing on my phone and I have big fingers.

AlaskaDragon - Pot meet kettle. Your post isn't exactly free from spelling errors itself.

I'm glad that he was found (albeit not in the manner many had hoped for) and his family and friends may now have some sense of closure.

I just figured that you considered yourself a know it all since1971. So, he goes missing from the city of Fairbanks - you're the expert, which direction do you start your search? North? South? East? West? It's not like a normal search and rescue where you have a start point (ie went on a hike at Angel Rocks). If you were such good guy and know everything about finding missing persons, then why didn't you go out looking? Because it's easier for you to sit in your chair and critisize rather than actually doing anything.

Btw, I can read just fine, but I noticed you don't know how to spell.

And it's true that AST assigns a very low priority to 'missing person' reports as compared to DUIs, for example, and also that much more effective use of AST flight hours could be had if their pilots would be more observant of unrelated/general terrain, etc while *enroute* to and from specific events.

I know how very, very hard it can be when one can't find the person, and the searching and wondering just goes on and on and on. So in that way, it's good that he's been found and can be brought home to rest in peace, and for those who loved him to be able to say good-bye.

But, ooh, I had so wished there would be a different finding!

Johnny was a well-liked and important part of our community. He will be missed by us all.

(LadyGrace, I don't think HrdHarry's comment had anything to do with Johnny -- he was just saying some types of problems probably get more of AST's attention than missing persons cases.)

God be with Johnny's family and friends.

I'm glad Johnny has been found, and to know he is reunited with his beloved Shiela. Both of them loved me until I could love myself, and then kept on loving me, warts and all. RIP, Dear Friend.

As usual, there are the arm chair coachs adding 2 cents about what they know nothing about. Johnny didn't drink. Guess people will be people, as the saying goes.

@ since1971 - Quit being such a blowhard. First of all, this was not AST's case until his body was found in ASTs area. Second, do you realize how big AK is? Where do you want to start the search and rescue? Where was he last seen? In Fairbanks!

It's not difficult to miss a truck or body off the road in this state. To say that law enforcement is being lazy because they didn't get out of the cars to look is just plain ignorant. The last he was heard from was on a cell phone call that could have been placed anywhere.

As for the girl in the snow - good luck finding anything in the snow. It doesn't really sound like you're from around here.

rockee no iwont cut any slack. they have several jet rangers to look. Having spent 10K plus hours in helicopters in fighting wildfires and in SEARCH and RESCUE if you cant finda pickup truck there is something wrong. And as for the meeting? I am offering the FAMLIES not the cops or any other so called group. The facts prove they didnt work in two incicents that shud have been eaasy to find.

Johnny Rogers family are so gratful for all the time and effort that was put in to finding our sweet brother and now we can bring him home. Johnny has made Fairbanks his home for over twenty five years and I know that his friends in FAIRBANKS will miss just a kind genial person. This has really been hard on us because he was so loved. I could write on and on about Johnny there is so much to tell about what he has meant to us. Thanks to all and your beautiful Fairbanks

My condolences to the family first & foremost.

I can attest that Wilderness Search & Rescue was never called to assist with this incident. They are the local crew that will assist AST on incidents.

Since1971, as you are willing to volunteer, come to the next WSAR meeting and sign up to assist. There are plenty of incidents where more people are needed than what are available. This goes for anyone reading this, the next meeting is going to be at 7pm, Thursday September 16th at Fairbanks AST on Peger Road.

Since1971: Go for it! But in the meantime, how's about being fair to law enforcement. They did a good job with the resources they had.

It saddens me that in a time when this man's family and friends need to know that the community cares, some people use the comments section in the paper to pursue their own agendas. You made yourself look real good there, 1971.
