FAIRBANKS — A Fairbanks woman has been accused of assaulting two men with a baseball bat after one of the men told her to stop yelling outside of a southside apartment complex.

Elizabeth Matson, 23, has been charged with second-degree and third-degree assault as well as first-degree burglary. All of the charges are felonies.

Matson was reportedly screaming outside of Anderson Apartments at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday when Jeremy Harpe, who was visiting his friend, Armagan Idil, at the apartment complex, opened a window and told Matson to be quiet.

A “verbal exchange” followed, and after a few minutes, Matson showed up at Idil’s door with an aluminum baseball bat, according to charging documents.

The men were able to force Matson out of the apartment, but as they were walking away, she hit Harpe once in the head.

Harpe attempted to spray mace on the woman but only succeeded in spraying himself, court documents allege.

Idil was able to help Harpe out of the building, and the two made it to another complex in the 700 block of 17th Avenue where they were able to call police. Matson reportedly continued to follow them, swinging the baseball bat.

She admitted to assaulting one of the men with a bat, according to charging documents.

Her bail has been set at $1,000. She was still listed as an inmate at Fairbanks Correctional Center as of Tuesday afternoon.

Matson has multiple misdemeanor convictions in the Anchorage area, including one conviction earlier this year for assault.

Samm - it does kind of have that sound to it, possibly with other 'recreational substances' mixed in?

Freeride - don't ever count on that! I know of a number of instances where a person, in fear for their life, fired on an intruder, a known violent individual, or someone who had previously committed violence against them, and were charged with murder or attempted murder anyway. I can even name an instance or 2 where LEOs threatened to charge someone with murder, should they attempt to defend themselves or their family members.

The purpose of bail is to retain the individual in the area, so that they can stand trial to determine if they are guilty as charged. It can't be used [or seen] as a punitive action, because, in our legal/judicial system, the court/judge must assume innocence until it is proven [or admitted] otherwise. The amount set for bail in this case appears to be retaining her, [not only in the area, but locked up in FCC] - so it has served the purpose for which bail is intended.

Could it possibly be that "alcohol was involved"? ;-)

She got very very lucky. They'll probably put her back out on the street where she'll end up dead. Trying to force your way into someone's residence in this state with a weapon? If he would have just shot her, we'd be reading her name, his name would not be released and no one would bat an eye.

"Bail is only $1000 for 3 felony charges? Hmmm, interesting. Gotta love the 4th Judicial District!"

Of course would you expect anything different? The court system judges and DA here are a JOKE. She will probably get 2 hours community service in a Plea Deal on promising to never do it again. Get her slap on the wrist and go back to being a piece of crap that contributes nothing to the community.
