FAIRBANKS - U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller has been issued a citation for his part in a three-vehicle accident that occurred Aug. 27 in Fairbanks. Another driver was also cited in the accident.

Alaska State Troopers cited Miller, 43, for “failing to exercise due care to avoid a collision.”

The accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on Geist Road.

Miller’s vehicle was the first of three to collide, rear-ending a vehicle driven by James Gregory Raisis, 58 of Denali Park. The impact of that collision pushed Raisis’ vehicle into the rear of a vehicle driven by Mark Alan Lewis, 49, of Fairbanks.

Lewis had stopped in the middle turn lane, preparing to turn left into Hutchison High School, according to troopers. Lewis was cited for stopping on a highway. Lewis told The New York Times that troopers told him that part of his vehicle was in the lane of traffic to his right. He told the Times he planned to contest the charge.

All drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and no injuries were reported from the accident. Each of the three vehicles sustained heavy damage, according to troopers.

Miller on the day of the accident told campaign spokesman Randy DeSoto that he was not at fault in the incident.

Miller defeated Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the Aug. 24 Republican primary.

Occasionally when I'm updating the web site, it's slow to cache the new stories and a story that wasn't coded correctly will reappear in the spot instead of the new one for a few minutes.

Yes, why is this story back up, i'm all for picking on Joe Miller, but this seems a bit too old to be news, I'm sure we can find some fresh dirt... right DNM?

(at least rehash it, rather than re-post the original)

So why does this 12day old article suddenly reappear on the front page of the on-line edition?

So was alcohol involved? Seems all other motor vehicle accidents or acts of stupidity mention if alcohol was involved. Why not this story?

Can someone provide a link to an article in which Joe Miller himself is quoted as saying that he wasn't at fault?

Not his campaign manager or spokesperson saying it.

I saw a sweet three car pile up at University and Geist today. I wonder if the drivers competed with each other to take the blame?

I hope all you liberals out there are paying attention to the moral of this story. Always admit guilt when involved in a car crash.

My fellow conservatives, after a car crash don't do anything but exchange the necessary insurance information with the other drivers. Then call your insurance company and give them the details of the crash, which you should have written down as soon as you got home. And be honest. Remember, we pay for insurance for a reason. Let the stupid liberals blab themselves into civil court.

Mr. Adams,

Free speech only applies between your speech and the governments reaction to it. It does not apply to a privately own business such as a newspaper comment section.

So... let me get this straight... some guy hangs his rear bumper out in the traffic lane while stopping in the turn lane... the guy in front of Miller slams on the breaks to keep from hitting him... Miller runs into the back of that guy... and somehow to a lot of you that shows Miller has bad judgement?

Get real folks... this is a traffic accident, not politics.

I agree with posters who feel this is a window into Miller's true character and would like to say I was the first to state: "prepare to be read-ended by 'its not my fault" Miller."

At least he was cited. Consider your vote carefully people.

I would like to reccomend to newsminer to limit the number of characters that can be put in a quote. In addition, there should be a timer from one post to another. Some are drowning out the discussion.

If that is the worst the media can do, then I believe we finally have a winner for Alaska. Lisa is spoiled cream. She lost my support by being friends of convicted bribe takers. Good ol boy club needs to go.

So let's see; Miller wins the upset of the 2010 election year for the whole country and the News Minus runs headlines about him quitting his job with the borough (a non-story) and about getting a ticket (another non-story) Not one headline to date about his miracle win. He's also appeared on several major national news shows. Funny, no one ever cared to listen to what Lisa had to say. Probably because she usually just talked about herself.

Lisa lost over a week ago and is still getting every headline in this silly "news" paper. GET OVER IT NEWS MINER, SHE LOST.
