The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

Assault

Bobby Earl Cooper, 35, transient, was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief after he allegedly pushed his girlfriend to the ground and held her there Tuesday at a local camp site.

He also faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief for reportedly using a stick to break one of her car windows.

DUI

• Joshua Brandon Arlie, 27, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police pulled him over for driving with no taillights Monday night on Terminal Street near Illinois Street. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.112. The legal limit is 0.08.

• Kelley E. Torres, 24, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Alaska State Troopers stopped her for failing to signal a turn Wednesday morning on Farmers Loop near Crossman Road. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.132. She also was charged with misdemeanor drugs misconduct after a small amount of marijuana was reportedly found in her purse.

Theft

Edwin Eugene Hanson, 26, of Fairbanks, was charged with second-degree felony theft after he allegedly tried to walk out of Sam’s Club Monday without paying for a coat, penlight battery pack and a DVD set.

Hanson reportedly dropped the battery pack and DVDs when store employees asked him to take the coat off at the front door. He then pushed them aside and ran toward the Bentley Mall. He was arrested a short time later hiding behind Michael’s, according to charging documents.

The merchandise was valued at about $160.

Hanson, who has three previous misdemeanor theft convictions since 2005, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Vehicle theft

A green 1996 Aerostar van, license plate CZG542, was reported stolen Thursday morning from 238 Mile Parks Highway. The van contained expensive outdoor equipment, according to troopers.
