FAIRBANKS — This summer’s heavy rains along the Taylor Highway continue to stymie traffic.

Today until Monday, there will be once-per-day convoys along the Taylor Highway, weather permitting. This season’s heavy rainfalls have destroyed parts of the highway and washed out many repairs made, according to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. Now, parts of the road that have been washed out are one lane and unsafe.

Starting at Eagle, traveling to 105 Mile, just before the Top of the World Highway junction, convoys will begin at 6:30 a.m. From 105 Mile, traveling to Eagle, convoys will begin at 3 p.m. After Monday, there are no more scheduled convoys, and the road will be closed.

The highway between Chicken and the Canada line is open but has one more scheduled closure on Wednesday lasting until Thursday at 6 a.m.

Vehicles from NorthStar Paving and Construction will lead the convoys. A person missing a convoy will have to wait for the next day’s convoy. After Monday, convoys will stop from Eagle to milepost 105 and maintenance will continue. At this time, only passenger vehicles, pickup trucks and trailers up to 20-feet long are allowed.

For updates on both highways, contact DOT’s hotline at 322-3844 or go to http://dot.alaska.gov/nreg/taylor-repairs/.
