Alaska netters head for tournament in Beaverton, Ore.

FAIRBANKS - Eric Ringstad is among three Alaskans who are seeded and fellow Fairbanks player Jared Lees is aiming for his third title in the Pacific Northwest this summer, as the duo is competing the U.S. Tennis Association Pacific Northwest Sectional Tournament on Thursday through Monday in Beaverton, Ore.

Ringstad, a Monroe Catholic High School senior, is seeded 11th in the boys age-18 division.

Jake Oberg of is the No. 16 seed for boys 16 and fellow Anchorage player Rendell Burghart is seeded likewise for boys 18.

Ringstad and Burghart combined for the runner-up honor in the boys 18 doubles at the Inland Empire Junior Championships on July 18 in Spokane, Wash.

It was the same tournament which Lees captured the boys 12 singles title.

The seventh-grader at Randy Smith Middle School took the same division title 10 days earlier at the North Central Washington Junior Championships in Wenatchee, Wash.

Whitney Williams also competing this week in Beaverton in the girls 16 division.

Williams recently moved to Anchorage from Louisiana where she had a USTA national ranking in girls 14.

The South Anchorage High School freshman has dominated women’s A division matches in Anchorage this summer.
