ANCHORAGE, Alaska - An Anchorage Daily News estimate puts the size of this year's Alaska dividend at between $1,250 and $1,320.

This could be the first time in about 15 years that the payment for qualified Alaska residents won't change much.

The Daily News estimate is based in part on Friday's announcement that $858 million in investment profits from the state's oil-wealth savings account will be available for dividends this year. It also factors some assumptions, such as how many people will be eligible for the dividend this year.

The state will announce the actual size of this year's dividend in September.

The state plans to pay this year's dividend to more than 600,000 Alaskans on Oct. 7.

Oh by the way. I WAS BORN HERE. My parents were both military and had to leave. I came back to live because I missed it. So I guess that makes me NOT AN ALASKAN. There are many people here who are transients that have made this a wonderful place to live. You shouldn't forget that aaalllaaassskkkaaannn....

This is specifically for the IDIOT who wrote that if you weren't born here, then don't file for a PFD. I have lived in this great state for 30 years. Most likely longer than you've been alive. I have worked hard and put every penny I make back into this economy. I have been involved in this community for every single year I have lived here. I AM ALASKAN AND I REPRESENT ALASKA IN EVERY POSITIVE WAY POSSIBLE! And since we all pay taxes on those PFD's, as well as put the PFD BACK into the economy, it makes you SOUND LIKE A FOOL to think we are stealing from YOU. As far as I know, you don't sign the checks so nobody is living on your account, which is most likely empty anyway. I'm sure you are probably a freeloader who sits and collects dividends and free paychecks from the state so maybe you shouldn't live on MY ACCOUNT! GO GET A JOB.

Aaalllaaassskkkaaannn,

I wasn't born here but my wife was. My kids weren't born here either, so are they half Alaskan? It doesn't matter anyway. I contribute to the local economy. I love being a transplant to Alaska and I look forward to my pfd. Thanks for sharing with me.

lalaleelou,

A few notes: "all the welfare suckers and others on entitlement programs" consist primarily of the elderly and disabled. Private entities have been unable or unwilling to support these folks. Would you throw them out on the street? There are certainly a few who abuse the system, but they are a small minority. Everyone I know, liberals included, would MUCH rather work for a living than accept charity.

Second, in FY2009, 39% of Federal spending was on social security, medicare, and medicaid. 42% of Federal receipts were from these same programs. Defense spending accounted for 23% of the budget but brought in almost no money (a percentage or two from corporate income taxes). I believe in the necessity of defending our nation as much as the next guy, but most other countries are able to provide for their self-defense using a MUCH smaller proportion of government funds.

You may disagree with the political perspectives of liberals, but you can't reasonably believe that we're actually out to destroy America. We fight for our beliefs because we love this country and want what's best for it - JUST LIKE YOU DO. We have common values, just disagreements on how best to achieve our goals.

stirthepot,

If it were not for the liberals, those of us that work for a living wouldn't be paying so much in federal income tax to support all the welfare suckers and others on entitlement programs.

Spaceman, If you actually know of anyone fraudulently filing for a PFD, simply turn them in. A few years back I turned in a family that had filed even though they had moved out of state three years prior. I'm not sure of the process now that our "alibi witnesses" no longer have to sign our form but in the old days they lost their dividends also.

Does anyone know if Palin's legal defense fund was included in the Pick, Click, Give program?

Stirpot

I think that SetitStraight was trying for sarcasm. Satirizing conservatives. I admit that it didn't work very well, and you, as a progressive, got caught falling for it hook, line, and sinker. Kind of a double whammy.

Keep that knee jerking. It's great exercise.

Get it. Send your check to Tony Hayward. You are stealing from him. And he needs the money. He lost his job.

Just wondering how much more it would be if it wasn't paid to dead people, or members of the military and their dependents who have since been relocated to other bases in the lower 48 and have no intention of ever living in Alaska again. Just wondering, that's all.

Somebody needs to set SetitStraight straight.

If it wasn't for liberals, he'd likely be working for slave wages in terrible conditions with no benefits.

In fact, with the past performance of conservative economics, it's a miracle he's working at all.

You just keep living in dreamland there Straight. See how that works out for ya...

Socialism is a economic theory based on public ownership of resources.

Are they thin stripes or fat stripes? Do the stripes vary in color? Why not polka dotted stripes or with glitter?

I'm changing my name to Tea Party.

Ah...... let the games begin!

The oil companies have made trillions striping the resources from Alaska. It is public property. It belongs to Alaskans. They do not own it. If I cut the trees off of your land you would expect me to pay you. You call this socialism? Let's get it straight! We have been getting the shaft, and they have been getting the oil.

Left wing liberalism at its worst. I'm sick and tired of all these government handouts and entitlement programs. I work for my living, thank you very much! All conservatives should simply write "return to sender" on the envelope and send it back as a statement against socialism.
