JUNEAU, Alaska - The Tlingit and Haida Central Council are getting nearly $1 million in federal stimulus money.

The funding being issued under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will go toward expanding Alaska's weatherization training programs and establish a new weatherization training center in Juneau.

The Department of Energy says the money will be used to expand weatherization services for low-income households in Southeast Alaska. The program hopes to create 25 paid apprenticeships.

The award is one of 34 projects in 27 states selected to receive $29 million in stimulus funding.
