DUI
• Benjamin David Finchum, 23, of Fort Wainwright was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop on Feb. 13. Fairbanks police pulled him over at 3:45 a.m. on Airport Way for weaving.
Finchum admitted to drinking two beers, displayed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests. He registered a breath-alcohol content of 0.146 on a chemical test.
• Cherie Lynn Bowman, 39, was charged with DUI after she was contacted by troopers with her vehicle in a ditch on Saturday morning.
Bowman was contacted at the Parks Highway and Faith Lane at 4:16 a.m. and failed field sobriety tests, according to court records. She registered a breath-alcohol level of 0.208 on a chemical test.
Assault
• Jonathan Curtis Shaw, 23, of Fairbanks was charged with misdemeanor assault after his arrest Tuesday evening. Shaw is accused of grabbing his girlfriend by the hair and throwing her to the ground when she tried to leave. According to a criminal complaint, Shaw also hit the woman on her arms and back in an attempt to keep her from taking their 4-month-old child.
• Murray Douglas Harrison Jr., 24, was charged with fourth-degree assault, reckless endangerment and fourth-degree criminal mischief following a domestic dispute, court records state.
Harrison was contacted by troopers at 1:31 a.m. Saturday in the middle of a dispute with two women.
A witness said he punched his girlfriend in the face during an argument following a day of drinking, causing her to drop the 1-month-old baby she was holding onto a sofa, according to records. Harrison also reportedly kicked in the door to a bedroom during the dispute.
• Charles Edward Davis, 30, was charged with two felony assault counts after pistol-whipping a man following a dispute over a debt, court records state.
Davis contacted the man Sunday morning to discuss money Davis was owed, and the meeting became physical outside the man’s B Street apartment. The alleged victim said Davis “bum rushed” him and pulled out a pistol, striking him in the head two or three times. Davis then pulled back the slide on the semi-automatic handgun to “cock” it, the man said, which caused the gun to eject its cartridge and its magazine.
The man, who suffered cuts on his head, ran to his apartment and called Fairbanks pPolice. Davis initially denied having a pistol and said he was attacked, according to court records, but later admitted he had hidden a .45-caliber handgun in some bushes before police arrived.
Davis was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault and tampering with evidence.
Sunken snowmachine
Fairbanks police received a report of a snowmachine in the Chena River near the University Avenue bridge with three people trying to get it out of the water Wednesday night. The snowmachine was in the water on the upstream side of the bridge. All three subjects were reported to be OK. The report did not state if they got the snowmachine out.
Burglary
• Troopers are investigating a reported burglary and theft from a home in Cantwell. The incident was reported on Feb. 17. Troopers have suspects.
• Someone with a key to Jester’s Bar in Nenana entered the bar during the early morning hours Wednesday and stole $1,200 in cash and $300 in cigarettes, according to a trooper report. Troopers received the report at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Vehicle theft
Martin R. Avery, 52, was charged with multiple counts, including first-degree vehicle theft, after a traffic stop in south Fairbanks.
A vehicle was spotted by troopers driving down the center yellow line on Davis Street at 4:38 a.m. Sunday, according to court records. After turning into a housing unit on 27th Avenue, the driver ran from the vehicle, leaving two passengers in the car.
After determining the vehicle had been reported stolen on Saturday, authorities followed footprints from the vehicle into a nearby Arctic entry and found Avery hiding inside.
One of the passengers, Linsey L. Preshaw, 27, told troopers she and Avery had permission to borrow the car for three hours on Saturday, but never brought it back. She and Avery were charged with first-degree vehicle theft, and Avery also was charged with DUI, driving with a revoked or suspended license and resisting arrest.
The other passenger, Bradley D. Crossland, 38, is on probation for a theft conviction and was charged with fifth-degree criminal mischief.
