FAIRBANKS - Anchorage’s own song-writing and singing sweetheart, Melissa Mitchell and band will perform in Fairbanks this weekend.

Named the best local singer and songwriter for 2009 by the Anchorage Daily News, Mitchell recently released her second full-length album, “Rain or Shine,” which is crafted with an eclectic mix of songs that take listeners through the highs and lows of life’s journey, and sheds light on the wisdom and maturity of Mitchell as she continues with her career.

Her music inspires listeners to dig a little deeper and persevere, something Mitchell has learned as an artist.

“All I can do is try to convey the deep healing I’ve experienced in my life and hopefully, let it serve as reminder, that we all have a opportunity in this life to be the best we can be,” she said. The artist, mother and activist has opened for major artists like Jewel, Mason Jennings, Blues Traveler, The Indigo Girls, Greg Brown and The Young Dubliners.

She performs at 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at The Marlin.
