FAIRBANKS - Extremely high winds, blowing and drifting snow closed the Steese Highway between 12-Mile Summit and Eagle Summit on Saturday afternoon, according to the Alaska Department of Transportation.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm could drop up to a foot of snow in the Fortymile area.

The avalanche gates at 81.2 Mile and 114.2 Mile have been closed. Crews are working to reopen the road.

Yup, you guys in town live in the Banana Belt. You may not realize the difference between the wx you get and real winter. I love the high country and it's winters!
