FAIRBANKS - A man facing kidnapping and attempted murder charges has turned himself in.

Jaamar Brown, 27, is accused of threatening to kill his estranged wife Oct. 29 after allegedly forcing his way into the woman’s Fort Wainwright home, tying her up with duct tape and driving her to another location where she managed to yell for help and escape.

Police Lt. Jim Geier said Brown was taken into custody at around 7 p.m. Saturday without incident after he arrived at the Fairbanks Police Department.

Prosecutors have charged Brown with two felonies, attempted murder and kidnapping, and a handful of misdemeanor assault charges. State Magistrate Nikole Schick set bail for Brown on Sunday at $1 million, calling the charges “incredibly serious.”

Brown faces up to 99 years in jail for each of the felony charges. He will be arraigned in Superior Court on Tuesday.

Um...no, Burkes. There is a difference between stupid and attempted murder. Stupid is hitting your thumb repeatedly with a hammer, knowing it's going to hurt worse the next time. Attempted murder is threatening to kill one's estranged wife after allegedly forcing one's way into the woman’s home, tying her up with duct tape and driving her to another location.

~Wow!!! Way to go, Magistrate Schick! Now--can you please move up and be a Superior Court Judge?

pearl, pearl, pearl... course they're not going push the issue on the trooper shooting, that might hurt their friendly relationship with the troopers.

I think I may have met this lady. She was the nicest person with a couple kids. Glad he turned himself in because now she probably feels safer.

Smart move, to turn himself in. It'll help, when it comes to sentencing, and he's going to need all the help he can get, it sounds.

What happened to the story on the Trooper shooting?? *Surely* the DNM is not trying to 'edit' the news by pulling that story off the page, after so short a run?
