ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska State Troopers have identified the officer who shot and wounded a Fort Wainwright soldier who pointed a gun at him.

KTUU reports (http://bit.ly/nM145G ) the trooper is Steven Lantz of the Delta Junction post.

Lantz wounded 28-year-old Army Spc. Timothy J. Fitzgerald early Monday morning at the Delta State Recreation Site. He fired after authorities say Fitzgerald pointed a gun at the trooper and a civilian.

Fitzgerald was hit in the shoulder. After being treated at an Army hospital, he was taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center.

He is being held on two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct involving weapons.

The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is conducting a probe into the shooting.

I'm so glad to hear this Trooper was able to return home safely to his family.
