FAIRBANKS — It’s a rapper’s delight of hip-hop music, and it’s descending on the Blue Loon on Saturday night.

Rap stars Bone Thugs-n-Harmony are headliners in the 2012 On My Grizzly tour, which also features prominent Alaska rapper Alaska Redd and special guests Dilemma and Cognito.

Bone Thugs-n-Harmony formed in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1991, and after more than 20 years, the Grammy-winning rap group has seen members come and go. Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone, Bizzy Bone and Flesh-n-Bone made up the original troupe, and noted rap icon Eazy-E is credited with discovering the rappers and signing them to their first big label with Ruthless Records in 1993. Noted founders Krayzie Bone and Wish Bone are headlining Saturday’s concert at the Loon.

Some of the group’s biggest hits include “Carol of the Bones,” “Thuggish Ruggish Bones,” “Foe tha Love of $,” “Shoot ‘em Up, ” “Tha Crossroads,” “Look into My Eyes,” and “Resurrection (Paper, Paper).”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the group said it’s planning new music and more tours.

“You know, it’s in the works,” said Wish Bone. “We do music, that’s what we do. It’s just a matter of time where we come back together, do it as a whole. We’re family, we’re brothers. At some point it’s all gonna come together.”

Alaska Redd is a veteran of the Fairbanks music scene and will appear on stage as part of an ongoing tour. The On My Grizzly Tour is Redd’s first truly statewide hip-hop tour, with Redd hitting up a dozen locations across the state from Barrow to Juneau and everywhere in between.

According to a release from Redd’s label, he worked as a roofer to buy the equipment he needed to get started in the music business.

“Got a good couple checks stacked up and bought a keyboard and a drum machine,” Redd said.

Two decades later, Redd is still at it, bringing original hip-hop to Alaska venues. He released a joint track with E-40 and opened for famed rapper and actor Snoop Dogg when Snoop played Fairbanks in 2010.
