If letter grades are good for schools, they must be good for legislators

We can improve education in Fairbanks by putting big letter grades above the front door of every school.

A big red "F" on the front door and on the school website will motivate all who enter the building to do a better job. And a big red "A" on the front door will make everyone proud of themselves.

The idea, according to Rep. Lora Reinbold, Fairbanks Rep. Pete Higgins and others, is that a simple system for grading schools  is just what we need to turn things around.

But the simple problem is that House Bill 151 doesn't go far enough.

Instead of a big  F on the front door and the website, the state should provide more motivation by requiring all the teachers and students to wear their letter grades on their chests.

And if this simple motivational system is such a good idea for grading our schools, it must be a good idea for members of the Legislature as well.
