FAIRBANKS — The Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce is accepting submissions for its annual artist of the year contest.
For the past eight years, the Chamber has provided a Fairbanks artist the opportunity to be showcased to thousands of residents and visitors. The winning artwork becomes the image of the Chamber for one year and is then featured on all marketing materials throughout the year, including the membership postcard, the Chamber’s website and the Chamber’s Fairbanks and North Pole map.
All entries must be received no later than 4 p.m. Nov. 15, 2013. Artists must be a resident of the greater Fairbanks area and each submission must be an original creation by the artist. All artistic techniques will be accepted. The winning artwork will be selected at the Chamber’s 2013 annual membership meeting on Dec. 3 by the members in attendance. In an effort to kick off the promotion of the 2014 Artist of the Year Contest, the Chamber will be host a First Friday event from 4:30-8 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Chamber office in downtown Fairbanks adjacent to the Key Bank Building. The special First Friday event will feature selected works from past Chamber Artists of the Year, including Matt Moberly, Craig Buchanan, Nikke Kinne and Jamila Hila Shwe. There will be light hors d'oeuvres and drinks provided by the Chamber. The First Friday event will be hosted by the Chamber’s Business & the Arts Committee. The event is open to the public.
