Rep. David Guttenberg, D-Fairbanks, is getting some mileage out of his mostly forgotten 2004 race for the District 8 Legislative seat.

That's when Guttenberg eked out a 52-48 percent victory over a Fairbanks attorney named Joe Miller. His old rival, of course, has since earned national recognition after unexpectedly winning Alaska's GOP primary for U.S. Senate.

Guttenberg is highlighting that old victory to bring people out to a fundraiser in Anchorage on Saturday. His online ads for the event scream "Hey Anchorage — meet the guy who beat Joe Miller".

Guttenberg is running for reelection against Denali Borough Mayor Dave Talerico. His fundraiser is being held at the home of Ethan Berkowitz, the Democratic nominee for governor.
