Fairbanks figure skater Baxter Burbank and his partner Katharine Ziegler are making their first appearance as a "senior" couple in the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
NBC plans to broadcast a portion of the competition he is part of Saturday, starting at 3 p.m. EST. It's not clear if he and Ziegler will be on TV, as there are 15 couples in the group they are competing in.
His mother, Glenda Burbank, said that because Baxter and Katharine are new to this level of competition, it would be "stunning" if they finished in the top eight or nine couples.
"We are just hopeful that they can present good programs and feel good about all the long, long hours that have led up to this," she said.
They finished ninth in the Coupe de Nice competition last year in France.
