FAIRBANKS — A home on Palomino Drive in the North Pole area is considered a total loss after it caught fire Wednesday night, according to a North Star Volunteer Fire Department news release.

The fire was reported at 11:33 p.m. at 1682 Palomino Drive, off Repp Road. The North Star department sent five vehicles and 20 people. The first engine arrived within four minutes of the fire being dispatched and found “heavy fire conditions” on the front of the blue, 1 1/2 story home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Crews knocked the fire down within two minutes and spent about two hours on scene making sure the fire was extinguished.

No one was home when the fire started. The owner arrived while the fire was being fought and already had alternative housing arrangements.

The home was insured and valued about $161,000.
